Scope of the Workshop

The goal of this workshop is to facilitate personal interaction between leading researchers working on various aspects of information technology relevant to security problems arising in large-scale computer networks engaged in information storing, transmitting, and processing. The workshop will provide for an environment conducive to joint brain storming of mathematical, technological and ethical problems, developing of mutual understanding and awareness of common “dead ends”, and resulting in generating a universal methodology in computer networks assurance. The proposed topics of the Workshop are as follows

1. Mathematical Methods and Models of Security Systems, in particular, for

  • Intrusion Detection,
  • Authorization and Access Control,
  • Denial of Service,
  • Network Security
  • Authentication,
  • Steganography, Hidden Communication and Watermarking,
  • Cryptography and Digital Signatures,
  • Viruses and other Malicious Codes.

2. Advanced Information Technologies for Computer Networks Security

  • Agent-based Models of Security Systems,
  • Computer Immunology Models,
  • Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery for Security Systems,
  • Security Modeling, Attack Modeling,
  • Security Protocols,
  • Mobile Codes and Agent Security,

3. Applied Network Security Systems

  • Database Security,
  • Distributed Systems Security,
  • Security in Electronic Commerce,
  • Other Applied Systems.

Workshop organizers invite session proposals and papers in any of the above and related areas.

Submitting a Session Proposal.

A Session Proposal would encourage professionals to initiate a profound consideration of specific relevant theoretical and applied issues in computer networks security. Session proposals are invited in, though not limited to, the above listed areas. Session Proposers are expected to bring from 8 to 12 presentations, thus, contributing to the success of the workshop. While arranging for a session, a Proposer secures the level of presentations and their relevance to the scope of the workshop and sessions.

Submitting a Paper.

The workshop welcomes original papers from academic, government, and industry contributors on mathematical approaches and models, state-of-the-art techniques, and novel applications in the above mentioned areas. All submissions will be subjected to a thorough review. Draft versions of original full papers up to 5500 words in English, including abstract (up to 300 words) and keywords (5 to 8), should be submitted by December 11, 2000 or earlier to the Scientific secretary of the Program Committee:

Only electronic submissions in MS Word 6.0 or advanced versions, PostScript or PDF formats will be considered.

Paper submission can be made via e-mail of Scientific Secretary of the Program Committee (mmm2001@mail.iias.spb.su)http://space.iias.spb.su/mmm2001.

The Program Committee will make the final selection based on peer reviewers’ evaluation. Notification of acceptance/rejection will be disseminated by January 15, 2001. Camera-ready versions of accepted papers (see below) will be due on February 15, 2001.

Guidelines for the proceedings camera-ready manuscripts of the accepted papers

According to the current agreement, the Proceedings of the Workshop will be published by Springer Verlag Publishers in their series "Lecture Notes in Computer Science". That is why camera-ready manuscripts of the accepted papers should be formatted in accordance with Springer Verlag Publishers requirements. The respective information and links could be found at Web site of Springer Verlag "Authors Instructions subpage" (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html ).

According to LNCS rules the camera-ready manuscript that also will be used as a source file for the online version of the LNCS, must be prepared in MS Word format using the template sv-lncs.dot (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/word/sv-lncs.dot – to use with PC systems).

To avoid any future inconvenience in dealing with the publishers of your papers please read all information about the template in the file sv-lncs.doc (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/word/sv-lncs.doc) carefully (also available in PDF format), and typeinst.doc (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/word/typeinst.doc) as an example input. The authors can download all four files as a ZIP archive from http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/word/word.zip. Please be aware that with some Web browsers the template may be destroyed during a transfer. So we would recommend the downloading of the ZIP archive as a more reliable option.

The authors of accepted papers must follow the aforementioned rules and template.

Camera ready paper submission can be made via e-mail of Scientific Secretary of the Program Committee (mmm2001@mail.iias.spb.su.

Languages of the Workshop

The Workshop work languages will be English and Russian. Each session presentations will be simultaneously translated. Note that all submissions must be in English.
