Workshop scope The problem of computer network and information security is a true challenge in the area of information and computer technologies that face a permanent growth in number, diversity and impacts of new types of threats to information and other computer network resources. While accounting for a critical role of information in modern societies, malefactors and terrorists can use attacks against computer networks and information security to achieve military, economical, political, and other goals. Assessment of the future trends in the development and realization of new threats to computer networks and information presents a difficult task, and it is equally difficult to anticipate the vulnerabilities of the software in the future. These and some other reasons enhance to the utmost the role of basic research and development in the area in question, particularly it regards new mathematical methods, models and architectures for computer network and information assurance.
The first International Workshop "Mathematical Methods, Models and Architectures for Computer Networks Security" (MMM-ACNS-2001) organized in 2001 by St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation, Binghamton University and US Air Force Research Laboratory/Information Directorate and supported by the European Office of Aerospace Research and Development, Office of Naval Research International Field Office, and Russian Foundation of Basic Research was a success ( http://space.iias.spb.su/mmm2001/main.jsp ). It demonstrated the keen interest of the international research community in the theoretical aspects of the computer network and information security and the need to conduct an on-going series of such workshops. The proposed 2003 Workshop is intended as a next step in this series and will be focused on theoretical problems in the area under consideration. Its objective is to bring together leading researchers from academia and governmental organizations as well as practitioners in the area of computer networks and information security and facilitate personal interactions and discussions on various aspects of information technologies in conjunction with security problems arising in large-scale computer networks engaged in information storing, transmitting, and processing.
Topics of interest
Intrusion detection models and systems,
Integration of different approaches to intrusion detection

7. Risk/vulnerability and security policies assessment
Submitting a paper
The workshop welcomes original papers from academic, government, and industry contributors on mathematical approaches and models, state-of-the-art techniques, and novel applications in the above proposed areas. All submissions will be subjected to a thorough review by at least two reviewers. Draft versions of original full papers up to 5500 words in English, including abstract (up to 300 words) and keywords (5 to 8), should be submitted by April 1, 2003 or sooner to the e-mail address mmm-acns@mail.iias.spb.su Only electronic submissions in MS Word 6.0 or advanced versions, PostScript or PDF formats will be considered. The Program Committee will make the final selection based on peer reviewers' evaluation. Notification of acceptance/rejection will be disseminated by May 15, 2003. Camera-ready versions of accepted papers (see below) are due June 15, 2003.
Guidelines for the proceedings camera-ready manuscripts of the accepted papers
Proceedings of the Workshop are planned to be published by Springer Verlag Publishers in "Lecture Notes in Computer Science" series.
